Amazing 1966 Gibson L-5 CT Custom in Cherry Red. The George Gobel Model. L-5 Specs. This one was ordered by H & H Music in Houston in 1966 and was originally sold by Red Novak. Two Owner History. It shows normal weather checking and has deepened to a rich Cherry Red. Flamed maple back and neck. Original Case that is fairly worn but still all there. This guitar is possibly the last one made until 1983 when they were re-introduced by the Gibson Custom Shop. Original Production of these ceased in 1961 at which time only 43 were ever made. This one is an acoustic archtop with carved spruce top and all L-5C Specs except for the thinner body. If you’ve ever played one of these you know how amazing they are and this one is right up there with the best we have ever heard or played. Fast low action and big round tone. It was originally ordered with the Byrdland tailpiece because the original owner didn’t like the big L-5C tailpiece. The pick guard was added along with a De’Armond Floating Pickup and a refret in 1996 by Jimmy Foster, luthier from New Orleans. The bridge is a custom bridge added by the original owner. This guitar is simply amazing in the way it plays and sounds. Pure perfection. There are no breaks or repairs other than what has been mentioned. The neck is straight. There is a wear/ding on the back of the headstock and the neck has a wear spot on the back lower treble edge. These are clearly visible in the photos. Shipping will be determined by your location.
